Founded in 2013 in Detroit, co-founders Kyle Hoff and Alex O’Dell launched on Kickstarter with a single product, The rohego Leg. It was developed out of a reaction to disposable furniture and allowed anyone to make a table from any found surface material. It quickly became a hit, and in their first year the fledgling company delivered their table legs to customers in over 30 countries. And so rohego began.
The following Design Principles have shaped the philosophy of what makes rohego, rohego: from the very first rohego Leg in 11 gauge sheet steel that was born out of avoiding an Ikea trip, to the 250+ lbs of solid plywood to construct the first rohego Bed Frame so co-founders Kyle & Alex could finally get their mattresses off the floor, to the rohego Sofa hacked together with sawed-off rohego Side Table legs. This practical design philosophy has led to thoughtfully different products living in more than 50,000 homes around the world.
There’s a damn good reason for it to exist. Our first product, The rohego Leg, was created as a reaction to disposable furniture and serves a clear function.
By designing the sofa to ship and assemble easily, we were led to a unique product and sofa system.
Bed frames have always been made to serve one size mattress. The rohego Bed allowed an individual to keep the product and expand on it over time.
The Shelving System is adaptable to grow with you. And in the event there’s ever a product failure, all parts are serviceable.
Simplifying the bed frame design with redundant parts allowed us to keep the product accessible. We can then opt for high quality materials such as steel and FSC certified Walnut.
We do not design for a single audience, but rather we work to make our designs inclusive. We design to work across a wide range of living spaces.
We introduce products we can stand behind 50 years from now. The products we put out in the world should stand the test of time.
